Freight insurance, or cargo insurance, is an insurance policy that protect the owner of the cargo against financial loss when cargo is on the way from shipper to consignee. The owner of the cargo has the responsibility of the cargo and to insure the cargo during transport. We suggest you check the Incoterms 2020 and your trade agreement with you client or supplier.
Incoterms are standardized conditions of sale and apply exclusively to the relationship between buyer and seller. The agreement between the freight forwarder and the client is regulated by the transport contract.
Every mode of transport has its own national and international set of laws and regulations. The CMR Convention governs international road transports, the Maritime Law applies to transport by sea, the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions govern air transport and the CIM conditions applies to transport by rail.
Our responsibility as freight forwarding agent is regulated by various country specific laws and rules.
